In a masterclass on how not to plan holidays I managed to go away two days after the last big storm hit. For the first time in ages the beach actually moved significantly and I was spoiled for choice about where to go. I ended up locally and there were coins everywhere. Three hours detecting produced about 57 quid, two silver rings, a silver and steel piercing plus a few foreigners and a bit of junk. It is a pleasant change when the good stuff outnumbers the trash.

A week later I returned to the same beach expecting very little. There was still a small area of sand showing and I managed to find several quid plus a 9ct gold ring and two junk rings. There was quite a lot of iron about so the following day I tried again with the small coil Unfortunately by then the sand was all under a foot of shingle but I persevered and and found 6 quid, a very brittle 0.4 gram 9ct medallion from an Argos ring and lots of small pieces of junk jewellery. I was very pleased as I'd finally got to see what the small coil could do. It's pretty awesome - sensitive and deep but with a half decent coverage and much less likely to give positive signals on iron, I think that I only got fooled once. :D

The big coil should arrive soon so I will have even more tech. to play around with.

Great result Fred. Glad the long awaited little coil didn’t disappoint too. You must have a room dedicated just to detectors now though - you really will need to make room for the planned spare! :D
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

I have been brutal and only have a Manticore and a D2. There are some spare stems for Noxes and lots of headphone cases and cables still knocking around but I have new windows being fitted next week and everything that I am not going to use is going to go. The D2 will also go as soon as I have another Manticore.

That's a nice haul chum! Never ceases to amaze me the sheer quantity of pound coins that you kindly remove from the shore. It shows, I think, the huge numbers of newer visitors you get on some beaches & they're still losing coins. Will it drop off in the very near future?

The small Manti coil is actually of a size that seems to be perfect for the job. Really glad they didn't just do a tiny round 6" for their new machine. Its small enough to carry about just in case you come across a tight spot. But then if you change it, you have to lump round the 11" - I'm sure the little one makes you concentrate & work harder in smaller areas. Now imagine a development of two coils in one, not impossible at all, just the usual cost & their loss of ancillary coil sales! Garrett actually had a double coiled head in a BFO.

Did you find many Reichmarks??

More success Fred.
Cost of living, not applicable to you.
You`re virtually drawing a weekly wage from those beaches.
Cheers,
Dave.

The beaches have all filled in and the bulldozers are out completing the job. The big coil is an OK weight and is deep and sensitive but no use if there isn't anything about. The tides are also at the wrong times for the next few days. Won't stop me going out but I'm not expecting to find much.
