Hello

I've been detecting for just over a year and have luckily got a couple of permissions that just fell into my lap through friends but I'm struggling to pluck up the courage to approach strangers.

I like finding out about the history of finds and can't really see the obsession with only wanting to find hammered coins and everything else is junk but I suppose everyone is different.

I use a Nox 800 but started with a Dr Otek then moved on to a Simplex, which my mate now has, and got addicted VERY quickly.

I've luckily been able to join a club so get to go different places most weekends and they've just announced their rally for next year so exciting time.

Oh and I'm middle aged, rapidly approaching old age but still moan about the old people in the supermarket until I realise they are probably younger than me.

Also mad dog lady that does agility and hoopers with them.

Hello Paula, and welcome to the forum.

Approaching landowners can be daunting but it's something we all have to overcome if we're to secure and of the decreasing pool of available land. Just goes with the territory.

I agree entirely. Hammered coins are nice to find, of course, but I find them boring to be honest. Give me a juicy artefact any day, preferably Roman!

Yep, I do that. And with some justification  There's old, older and then there's old. I probably fit into the first category, but can still whizz round a supermarket and secure a week's supply of vittles in fifteen minutes, providing the old fogeys get out of my way as I come thundering down the aisle :D

Don’t get me started on shopping aisles and etiquette. The hub doesn’t allow expletives 😂

The Hubble and I were discussing the age thing the other week and how we look at some people and call them old but they’re probably younger than us  I like Judi Dench’s view of life - she’s mid 30s in her head and ignores her real age.

Love your attitude Paula and hope to see more of your lovely finds. The unusual artefacts really are the best fun and a joy to find. Mind you hammered coins still have a very special place in my heart :D
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Welcome to the forum Paula.

I'm greedy, I want to find everything, artifacts, Roman, hammered, gold, anything that is of historical interest!
