With inland Detecting on the backburner for a couple of months at least, the order of the day was a bottle scavenge. His Lordship has no qualms about Warrior Queen and myself, looking for bottles, as he did himself when he was a lad.
Beer bottles are still on the surface but literally involves crawling through shrubbery. Finding a group of 5 all plain no Brewers details. Noticed a 6th, that was half buried. Carefully extracting the bottle, the Vulcanite stopper was still in there. Took the stopper. This one being different due to the depression in the center. Could see the word Grade and then at home War.
On looking up War Grade at home, found an interesting site with a History lesson.

Rubber recycling kept our planes in the Sky because without tyres, they were grounded.
We`ve all heard of the Spits from Saucepans but had never even come across this before.
Apart from the usual run of the mill sauce bottles etc. Found what i thought was an ornate lid with 2 Lions on but it is actually the base to a terrine for potted meat or Foie Gras, probably pre War,. Just under 4" diameter. Le Cachet, Terrine Brevetee
Also various bits of tableware, handle from a Terrine or Po.
Not much but a few enjoyable hours.
