Weird stone

Not a fossil l dont think but what on earth is it ?

It is all stone, dosent look like a layer has come away, very strange.

Found Essex/Suffolk boarder, any ideas gratefully received :thumbsup:

Funnily enough I find similar looking stones on the Essex/Suffolk border! I wonder if we're detecting in the same areas ha ha

Iron slag from old bloom iron working. You are in exactly the right area for it. . :thumbsup:

Oddly i find smaller items similar to this and i put it down to a bronze outer that has had something iron inside it ?

I was on a Medway History Finders dig a month ago or so ago on a site that was covered in the damn stuff. :thumbsup:

Any idea when they stopped using that method of smelting ( am being lazy I know) :thumbsup:
