It is easy to laugh at the mistakes made on these programmes but the camera pressure can make people say and do things they wouldn’t normally do wrong. No idea how I know that  A couple of people on another forum, that shall not be named, loves to repeatedly rub in any mistakes at every opportunity and they just sound rather bitter. That’s not a dig at anyone on here, just a more general observation.

Overall this series is really good. A nice mix of people, a good mix of info about finds, detecting and the benefits of the hobby on mental health, etc. Better than any of the other programmes I’ve seen on detecting
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Kurt, the Avon & Glos FLO, who was seen recovering the hoard of 3 pots of Roman coins attended our club meeting this evening and gave some more information on the find.

The way coins are found in a hoard can give a clue to how it was built up, eg coins can be in layers by age suggesting that the hoard was "topped up" over time. The British Museum examined this find and there was no "layering" nor diffference between the pots, therefore suggesting that they were all buried at the same time.

Further work has been done on the site and it looks as if it was a compound. It looks as if there was a rare Roman kiln, which historically is much more interesting than the hoard. Work is being done on the pottery from the site and identifying where the same type has been found in the country.

They believe that the coins were related to the kiln and probably payments for goods.

A full report is being written.

He also gave a detailed breakdown of what is involved in cases like this where hoards are found. Including the costs which are considerable if more than a basic recovery of a small hoard (I did highlight that members can claim up to £500 from the NCMD towards recovery of hoards).

Nice update Evan, thank you. Important point on the NCMD hoard fund too. A lot of members forget about this great member benefit

You can not leave us hanging like that; give us a clue what do you look like?, what were you wearing? or anything so that we can identify you.

Haha, trust me, being asked unprepared questions in one take with a stonking great big camera pointed at me, I was flustered….😂
‘Gorgeous George’ features heavily in Wednesday’s programme and he’s a complete natural!

Lol, substitute ‘flustered’ for ‘sweaty’ and I concur!

So which finds did you show? With regards George, I must admit the whole Indian Jones fixation made me cringe a bit although my other half was far less flattering about his dress up games! lol
