Hello,
I’m new just today so this may have been discussed already .
I’ve had maybe five pinpointers over the years mainly minelab and a black Garrett and Mi6 which to be fair is fine.
In general though other than the Mi6 they seem to become super sensitive and nearly unusable as unstable while using them. The ones I’ve had seen to have a poor shelf live.
Any good recommendations out there for a tried and tested ones .

I highly recommend the Garrett 'carrot' Pro pointer AT unless you have a Deus then the MI6 would be a better option.

A Garrett carrot works well with the Nox, reliability is good.

Yes the Orange Garrett AT pro is always a popular and well tested option the Nokta Makro ones are a very popular option too. Personally I’m an Mi6 lover and mine lasted 5 years no problem until I washed it without putting the lid on properly and fried the inside But can see you have had problems with yours which is a shame. Do call Regtons for advice on it, especially if it’s still under guarantee (2 years).

The garrett carrot is a great bit of kit - still got mine after 6 years although, to be fair, it's largely unused these days as the Mi-6 is perfection.

I've seen a lot of complaints online regarding the longevity (or lack of it) of various pinpointers - often from people who tend to use them as a digging tool

Thank you , ha ha well you have a point there as I’ve seen lots of people digging into the wall of a hole instead of reaching for the spade 6 inches away .

Very true, and then complain that the plastic of the tip is weak when it wears away in stoney ground

I started with the Nocta Macro, but it seemed to loose a degree of sensitivity/range after a year or so...I sent it back to Regtons who said it was fine....Comparing it to my mates Garrott carrot, even when new, the Nocta had far less range than the Garrott...The plus for the Nocta is that it's built like a tank.....

I now use a Whites TRX...better range than the Nocta or the Garrott and actually pin points off the tip....its one of the very few pin pointers that does this...people tend to love or hate the feature, but I love it...The down side is that it feels very light and I had doubts about its build quality, but it's held up ok for 18months or so...

Both these pinpointers seem to struggle with very small targets like a cut half or bits of foil...It can be very frustrating getting a cracking signal off the Nox, and then taking ages to find a fairly shallow bit of foil....

I've had a Nokta pointer for about three years now and would definitely recommend.
As many detectorists have commented, the important thing with all pointers is not to use them as digging tools.
