Umbonate Brooch

I popped out for a few hours this afternoon. This little beauty was in the second hole.

Although it's got some historical damage, it's gorgeous.

It looks to be a Roman umbonate brooch, 1st-2nd century AD.

Would have looked lovely with its enamaling back in the day

Not bad for the second hole, and makes ya wonder whats still hiding in that area

I've had a fantail brooch from there, and a Roman coin or two, so it's got potential!

That’s a lovely find,with great detail,found one last year but nowhere near as good as yours.👍

My guess is that it broke and the Roman hoiked it away in a fit of pique.

Never found an umbonate, though I'm sure there's one lurking about somewhere amongst the others.
