Is this a decorative stud?

Found this yesterday 9mm tall, stud 8mm wide with "split pin". Possibly made of iron. I think I have read somewhere about these studs being used on either leather clothing or horse tack. Can anyone confirm either and if so do you have a rough date please

Turn the first image left 90 and it looks to me a bit like a hook which has had something hanging or sitting on it causing damage to the stem that idea only works if it had a screw thread fixing or similar which is now missing or corroded away from left hand side

Did they make open vine eyes :?: :lol:
