There is a nice example of a similar stop-cock in the museum at Rievaulx Abbey if you're ever in that part of Yorkshire.

That says Roman all over it. I found a similar Roman cockeral. Apparently, they were buried as an offering to the God's. Although yours appears to be missing the base👍🏽
