If it was a hammered I might agree but it was Roman so it’s ok :D

:D You may have said before on here, but what is it about Roman coins that puts you off Oxgirl?

Most are corroded tiny, badly made bits of copper. There are too many Emperors and they pretty much all look the same (except the ladies who look like men with buns). I find lots of little Roman coins and they now just annoy me. The big sestertius are actually okay and I don’t mind them and the silver ones are nice if they are the early Republican ones but the majority are just rubbish.

Is that a good enough reason? Probably not. Being honest I don’t really know, I just don’t find them interesting.

I’m also not a massive lover of Bronze Age axes and tools either and the comment ‘they are on everyone’s bucket list’ doesn’t apply to me at all. I don’t really get excited about coins post 1800 either, even silver ones. Or modern military stuff. I understand and appreciate why other’s like all these things though

I’m just a philistine!

Thanks for the in-depth explanation! I'm the other end of that spectrum, only having ever found one grotty Roman coin in nearly two and a half years detecting so would happily find more. As with you, bronze age axe heads are great but not necessarily on my bucket list - I'd be happy to find one though. Modern and military aren't really high on my list either - Saxon, Viking and medieval to early post medieval far more exciting.
